Rules
How to play Spathi
These rules describe the current implementation in Rrethi.
Deal
Each player receives four cards and four cards are placed face up on the table.
Turn
Play exactly one card. Capturing is optional even when available.
A–10
A–10 capture a matching rank or a numeric set with the same total; Ace counts as 1.
Face cards
J, Q and K capture exactly one face card of the same rank.
No capture
If no capture is chosen, the played card remains face up.
Last cards
New four-card waves are dealt. The last player to capture receives the remaining table cards.
Scoring and finish
How the winner is decided.
- Unique majority of all cards: 2; a 26–26 tie scores 0.
- Unique majority of clubs: 1; 2♣: 1; 10♦: 1.
- The uniquely leading team at 11 or more wins; ties continue.
Starter strategy
Three practical ideas.
- A legal capture is not always the best move.
- Save numeric cards for exact-sum captures.
- Track clubs, 2♣ and 10♦ because they score directly.
